## Tour Program

### Izmir – Samarkand

In the evening, we meet at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport International Terminal, complete our check-in and baggage procedures, and take our SunExpress Airlines direct flight to Samarkand International Airport. After collecting our luggage and completing passport and customs formalities, we board our waiting bus and transfer to our hotel, where we will stay.

### Full Day Semerkand

After breakfast at our hotel, we begin our journey to Samarkand, the Pearl of the Silk Road, where knowledge, armies, religions, and cultures have converged for centuries. Our first stop is the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as the resting place of Timur-i Leng (Timur), founder of the Timurid Empire, who was known throughout history both as a military genius and a ruthless conqueror. The name Gur-e-Amir means "Emir's Tomb," originally built by Timur during his lifetime for his grandson Muhammad Sultan, and later continued to be used as a family mausoleum. Designed in the Timurid style with Islamic architectural elements, the interior of the mausoleum is adorned with blue and gold mosaics, while the ceilings feature intricate calligraphic and tile decorations. After listening to our guide's commentary, we proceed to Registan Square, renowned as a center for trade, history, and culture education; its name derives from the Persian word meaning "sandy place." Here, we learn about the three magnificent madrasas: Ulugh Beg Madrasah, Sher-Dor Madrasah, and Tilla-Kori Madrasah. Amidst the historic atmosphere of this square—which has long captivated the attention and cultural spirit not only of Samarkand but of all Central Asia—we enjoy some free time before heading to Siyob Bazaar. There, we take a break to shop for souvenirs and have lunch at our own discretion. Following this pause, we visit the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, one of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the region. Commissioned by Timur in celebration of his return from the Indian campaign, the mosque bears the name of Bibi Khanym, his wife. Decorated with rich tilework, calligraphy, and stone carvings, the mosque features extensive use of blue and turquoise tiles on both its interior and exterior facades, with Arabic inscriptions—particularly verses from the Quran—adorned across various sections. Although the historic structure has suffered damage from earthquakes and other major events over the centuries, it has been restored and continues to welcome visitors. It remains a must-visit site for tourists and researchers alike. After our guided tour here, we visit the Shah-i-Zinde Necropolis, whose name translates to "Living King." This complex houses the tombs of important figures and scholars. We also explore the observatory built by Ulugh Beg between 1424 and 1429, who served as a scientist, astronomer, and administrator during the Timurid era. Inside the building, which houses a massive sextant—an instrument for angular measurement—we listen to further explanations. In the evening, we head to our local restaurant for dinner. Guests are welcomed with a ceremonial presentation featuring shashlik kebab cooked on six-meter-long skewers, accompanied by music and dance, along with a variety of local delicacies. After an enjoyable evening, we return to our hotel.

*Breakfast will be served at our hotel; dinner will be taken either at a local restaurant or at our accommodation. Included in the price!
*Lunch will be taken independently during the tour and is not included in the price.

Then we proceed to the Poi Kalyan Complex, where Bukhara’s landmark structures stand together. Here we see the imposing Kalyan Minaret dominating the city skyline, the Miri Arab Madrasa, one of the important educational centers of the Islamic world, the Abdulaziz Khan Madrasa distinguished by its colorful tile decorations, and the Ulugh Beg Madrasa, built in 1417 by Ulugh Beg, the grandson of Timur and a scholar whose work helped shape the history of astronomy. Next, we arrive at the Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasa, often considered part of the Kalta Minor (Short Minaret) but actually standing alone as one of the largest madrasas in Central Asia. This two-story building, entirely adorned with glazed tiles on all its walls, now operates as a hotel, and we begin our tour here. First, we visit the Hazrati Imam Complex, one of Tashkent’s most important religious and historical centers, which includes the Barak Khan Madrasah, the Kaffal Shashi Mausoleum, the Tilla Sheikh Mosque, and the Hazrati Imam Mosque. Inside the complex, we see one of the most precious manuscripts in the Islamic world: the Qur’an written in Kufic script in the 7th century, believed to be the very copy recited by Hz. Uthman at the time of his martyrdom. As we tour these structures, we listen to our guide’s explanations about their architecture and tiled domes.

After visiting the Emir Timur Museum, which has become a symbol of the capital with its white structure and houses more than 5,000 artifacts, and resembles the blue dome of Gur-e Amir in Samarkand, we continue to the Kukeldash Madrasah, an important example of traditional Central Asian architecture, and then continue our tour through the historically preserved Old City area. Next, we head to Chorsu Bazaar, one of the most colorful and lively places in Tashkent. We continue our sightseeing by seeing Independence Square, one of the symbols of modern Tashkent, and Amir Timur Square, one of the city’s important meeting points. After seeing the Tashkent Metro, one of the first and largest metros in Central Asia, decorated almost like an art gallery and featuring marble and large chandeliers, with stations named after important and famous figures, and the Applied Arts Museum, we go to Magic City Park, considered one of Asia’s largest entertainment and attraction parks. We visit the park, which offers amusement areas, musical fountains and pools, cinemas, and one of Asia’s largest aquariums, bringing the ocean right before your eyes.
